2048 Game

SWIPE OR USE ARROW OR NUMPAD KEYS TO PLAY

Overview

2048 is a fun and easy puzzle game. It is played on a 4x4 grid by using arrow keys, the numpad or swiping a touchscreen to manipulate tiles.

Tiles with the same value that bump into one another are merged. Although there might be an optimal strategy to play, there is always some level of chance.

This game is mobile or touchscreen compatible meaning you can enjoy playing it on any device.

How to Play

Use your arrow or numpad keys to move the tiles. Alternatively if you have a touch screen by swiping up or down and left or right.

Every time you press a key or swipe all the tiles slide accordingly. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one. Continue merging them until you get a 2408 tile.

Can You Get 2048

Yes it is possible to get to 2048.

Many players are able to get to 2048 after a few games or perhaps a few days. Rarely in the first attempt at the game do players beat it though.

However, once you get the idea of the game and try several strategies such as the corner strategy its difficulty decreases.

How Scoring Works

Merging two lower tier blocks together will give you the score of the higher one (score of +8 gained from merging two 4's). For any specific tile score, you have to add up all the scores from the lower tiers. Here are some examples:

  • 2 tile = +0 pts

  • 4 tile = 4 = +4 pts

  • 8 tile = 8 + 2x4 = +16 pts

  • 16 tile = 16 + 2x8 + 4x4 = +48 pts

  • 32 tile = 32 + 2x16 + 4x8 + 8x4 = +128 pts

If you beat the game and would like to truely master it, try to finish with a smaller score. This would mean that you finished with less moves.

Highest Possible Score

The highest possible score you can get in 2048 is: 131,972.

You will need quite a bit of luck to obtain that score however. To get that very rare score, you need to spawn a 4 tile as your last tile.

In the event that you are not that lucky (50% probability either way), the theoretical highest score is 2 to the power of 16 or 65,536.

Why is it called 2048

Reaching the 2048 tile is your goal. You start from 2 and or 4. By merging the number tiles you double the their number all the way up to 2048.

All the possible tiles are: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048
